12 December 2019 Holy Mass for celebration of Our Holy Mother of Guadalupe by Father Frank with Fr. Andrew Kafara and Deacon Carl. Polish Cultural ladies and Mexican Aztec Native American descendants wore traditional costumes made by Esperanza Villela who is 92. I am so grateful that Sr. Juan Salcedo celebrated his First Holy Communion today after being Baptized and Confirmed as a child in Mexico by his family. Los Matachines, all parishioners, led by Martin Cordero performed a traditional dance. La Obra led by Teresa Ferreira with Rosa Palacios and her daughter, Yadira, as the Virgin Mary and her son, Ruben, as Juan Diego. The Bishop was played by Adrian Falcon. Que Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe! Que Viva Cristo Rey! I am overjoyed with the Love of Jesus and Mary!

Juanito, Juan Dieguito.”

PURPOSE OF THE CURSILLO MOVEMENT
As an instrument for renewal in the Catholic Diocese of San Antonio, the Cursillo Movement is a movement to lead lay and religious members to commit themselves to the strategy of the Movement and the Christian transformation of their environments. The Cursillo Movement subsists not only from the initiative of those who lead it, but also through the willingness to be born, grow, and advance to the degree that those persons in the Movement allow themselves to be moved by the power of the Holy Spirit.
In the Cursillo Movement we approach evangelization as a very natural act of being Christ-like within each of our daily activities. We realize that while most people would like to live their lives in a Christ-like manner, the pressures of the world often make this difficult. The Cursillo Movement provides a method and a technique to provide each of us with the tools, the mentality, the strength, and the support to make this natural type of evangelization possible. The Cursillo Movement can assist each of us in developing a deeper understanding of what it means to be fully Catholic by being fully Christian. The Cursillo Movement can assist each of us in developing a deeper understanding of what it means to be fully Catholic by being fully Christian. The Cursillo Movement is what inspired the creation of The ACTS Mission.

WHO CAN ATTEND?
You must be at least 18 years of age. You must be a Catholic in good standing and able to receive the Sacraments. You must be invited and sponsored by another Cursillista. You will fill out an application and have your sponsor and your pastor sign it. Your sponsor is responsible for submitting the application for you. If you are married, it is highly recommended that both of you make your Cursillo. The only other requirement: bring an open mind and an open heart with you to the weekend. Keep in mind that no one is "too knowledgeable" or "too spiritual" to make a Cursillo.
There are priests, devout teachers, and theologians who make their Cursillo, as well as lay Catholics looking to deepen their faith. In other words, there are people who know very little and others who know a great deal. No matter your knowledge of the faith or your spirituality, Cursillo is right for you.

WHAT IS CURSILLO?
Welcome to the Catholic Cursillo Movement of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. We encourage those who have not yet taken part in a Cursillo to explore our site and join us. Cursillo is a worldwide movement of the Roman Catholic Church. Using the tools of piety, study, and action, it begins with a three-day encounter with the self, Christ and each other to become Christian leaders in our daily lives. Our founder, Eduardo Bonin, developed Cursillo as a foundation for people to experience what is fundamental in being a Christian, i.e. to love God and to love our neighbor. Cursillo offers a method of community growth through sustained sharing, prayer, and study in small friendship groups. Friendship groups enrich our lives with piety, grow our understanding of faith in the study, and take action to bring others to Christ.
The Cursillo Retreat is a wonderful weekend experience and true to its name is a remarkable "Short Course" in the Catholic faith. Although the ACTS retreat was modeled after Cursillo, there are some major differences, most notably in focus and in emphasis. Cursillo Retreats are strictly for Catholics, and always reach out to the general population to form team and recruit retreatants. ACTS Retreats are open to all faiths and generally are directed primarily to those within a parish.
Another example of difference is that the Cursillo Retreat is very structured and provides very little flexibility. The ACTS Retreat, on the other hand, represents the wishes of the Director and team in selection of presentations. No two ACTS retreats are exactly alike. There are certain events that are required but each retreat is unique because of the individuality of each team.
The ACTS and The Cursillo Retreats do the work of the Holy Spirit and both are needed. The ACTS Movement shall always be grateful to the Cursillo Movement for its beginnings and its foundation. The ACTS retreat has gradually become a Parish Weekend Retreat patterned after the description of the early Church in the Acts of the Apostles (ACTS 2:42-47); breaking bread together, worshipping together, receiving instruction together, sharing in common, and reaching out in loving service.

HISTORY OF CURSILLO
The Ultreya
Ultreya is a Spanish word that which means "Onward!" "Persevere!" "Press On!" The term was used originally by those who were making a pilgrimage on foot to the Shrine of St. James at Compostella in Spain, where the last part of the journey was a hike up a steep hill. Groups of pilgrims would call this word of encouragement to each other as they climbed up the hill. Through Cursillo, Ultreya is an on-going gathering of the friendship groups for people who have completed their three-day Cursillo, uniting them in a Christian community that helps then support one another in the drive to remain Christ-centered. Apostolic enthusiasm is sustained as participants share their lives in Christ and are inspired by the lives of others in the areas of faith, holiness, and evangelization. Ultreya provides the continued support to make the Cursillo experience lifelong.
